THE WEEK's Chief of Bureau (Delhi) Namrata Biji Ahuja and Senior Assistant Editor Sanjib Kr Baruah handed over the comprehensive report to the minister, who was the chief guest and keynote speaker on the final day of the Maritime Conclave 2025. At the event, THE WEEK Chief Associate Editor and Director Riyad Mathew had announced plans to hand over the report.

THE WEEK had done the same after the Maritime Conclave in Chennai last year, too. A similar report compiling insights from THE WEEK Defence Conclave 2025 held in April this year, was presented to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, a week after the event.

Mathew had also lauded Sonowal's dedication to the maritime sector, and the shipping minister's interest in "every detail of the summit" well ahead of the event.

Under Sonowal, India is aiming to become a global maritime superpower by 2047, driven by legislative reforms, port modernisation, and a focus on sustainability and digitalisation—as defined in the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

The second edition of THE WEEK Maritime Conclave also saw the launch of its ‘Maritime, Ahoy!’ microsite, an addition to the publication’s special coverage of areas such as Health, Defence and the Middle East.

It preceded the India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025) from October 27 to 31, which brought in over Rs 12 lakh crore from over 600 Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) signed at the event.
