Karachi Port Trust X account hacked, most likely by forces sympathetic to India

At 11.43am IST, the official X handle of the Karachi Port Trust posted that they had suffered “heavy damage” and an “unacceptable loss of property” following a strike by India.

The tweet said that emergency response efforts were under way and updates on the restoration of services would follow. “We stand resilient,” the tweet proclaimed.

The tweet led to confusion as the handle had posted an entirely contradictory version at 8.39am IST. The post said Indian media was circulating “false and baseless” reports about the Indian Navy’s attack on Karachi Port.

“Karachi Port is operating normally & securely. All port functions, activities & operations are taking as normal routine activity,” the post said.

At 12.40pm, the handle put out a tweet that the account had been hacked. The 11.43am tweet, too, was deleted.

Earlier in the day, a tweet suggested that Pakistan had requested its international partners for money to continue the war.

This was later debunked by multiple outlets, including THE WEEK. The tweet came from what was considered to be the official handle of the Economic Affairs Division, Government of Pakistan.
