This comes a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's Nov 5 rally in Karnal, in which he was seen challenging Rahul Gandhi to a special Parliament session to debate the SIR.
It is a battle of dares between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lok Sabha Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, with the Congress leader challenging the former to convince PM Modi to have a debate with him on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls—the third such debate call in recent months.
He also posted a video on X, showing two different comments by Shah on the protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the SIR, claiming that these were "confusing" PM Modi.
"Amit Shah ji, don't confuse Modi ji. Just convince him to have an open debate with me. Any platform, any time. Don't be afraid," he captioned the video.
In the video, Shah could be heard taking two different stances on having the SIR debate in the Parliament.
On December 10, 2025, while replying to Rahul Gandhi's accusations of vote theft, Shah was seen saying in Parliament that discussions on SIR could not take place inside the House as the matter came under the Election Commission of India (ECI), which is an independent body.
On November 5, 2026, Shah was seen saying that the government was ready to call for a special Parliament session to discuss the SIR.
"If you (Rahul Gandhi) wish to engage in a responsible discussion—if your concerns hold truth, substance, and logic—then come and discuss them inside Parliament. Let’s face each other head-on! But you won’t be able to handle the answers; as always, you will just run away," Shah was seen saying at a rally in Karnal, Haryana.
This open challenge from the Union Home Minister was itself a response to Gandhi urging PM Modi on November 3 to debate him.
"Choose any stage, any venue, and debate me on this - Who is anti-national? Who has connections with foreign forces? And what is the nature of those connections? Let's do this as soon as possible. We'll both be there. The media will be there. The youth of this country will be there," he declared.
Shah had responded to every single part of these claims in his Karnal rally, questioning how the Congress could protest against the CEC when it "still lost" in 2014, 2019, and 2024—three election cycles that saw no SIR.
Apart from seeking details of Rahul Gandhi's foreign visits—referring to his recent Vietnam trip, especially—Shah also took potshots at the 70,000-capacity Ramlila Ground in Delhi being allegedly "half empty" during the INDIA bloc's November 1 'Dilli Chalo' rally.
