The air quality in the national capital could fluctuate between severe and very poor levels over the following week.

Around 30 out of 59 air quality monitoring stations across the national capital recorded severe pollution levels at 9 am on Friday; the rest recorded ‘very poor’ air quality.

Rohini recorded an AQI of 475, followed by IIT Delhi at 472.

The city’s AQI levels rose form 889 at 8 am to 391 an hour later, staying in the very poor category.

The hazardous pollution levels are expected to persist until November 8 and coincide with Diwali.

The worsening air quality is being driven by multiple factors, including the winter stubble burning. The firecrackers used for Diwali celebrations are likely to further worsen the conditions.
