An assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Punjab police has been suspended after a video went viral on X, allegedly showing the officer planting heroin at a political leader’s house. The video has raised questions about the conduct of the Khanna police.

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday in the Ludhiana district. In the video recorded by a spy camera at Shiv Sena leader Mahant Kashmir Giri's house, ASI Sukhdev Singh allegedly entered the room in regular clothes and placed something under the mattress.

Subsequently, a police team, including Sadar station house officer Vijaypal Singh and City-2 station house officer Tarwinder Kumar Bedi, conducted a search around the room. A police officer checked the exact area under the bed and later claimed to have recovered around 30 grams of heroin from the priest’s house.

Sukhdev Singh, who was posted with the Punjab police, was suspended on Sunday after the video went viral.

The case originally began with the arrest of Gurjant Singh, Kashmir Giri’s driver, who was detained with 7.5 grams of heroin. While he was interrogated, Giri’s name was brought into the conversation.

The BJP criticised the video, describing it as a “disgusting act” by the AAP government’s police in Punjab and claimed that it was a conspiracy to defame a religious identity.

“Those who claimed to free Punjab from drugs are now getting drugs planted in the houses of saints and sages themselves! The conspiracy is clear... target Sanatan, implicate saints in false cases and hide your failures! But remember... the Hindus of the country are watching all this, and will settle the score for this conspiracy,” the BJP wrote on X.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal also mocked the ruling party, saying, “ AAP Punjab promised home delivery of services, but who knew it included home-delivered drugs by the Punjab Police to frame citizens?”
