Former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday called for greater public participation in nation-building, stressing that achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047 required citizens to take responsibility for the country's progress.
Delivering the keynote address at Mantranā, the flagship discussion series of Bharat Ki Soch, Naidu placed citizens at the centre of the nation-building process, observing that “nation means people”. He underlined the close relationship between rights and duties, emphasising that both must go hand in hand.
Turning to the role of young people, Naidu invoked the principle of “Learn, Earn and Return”, urging them to use their education, skills and professional achievements for the wider good of society. He highlighted the importance of vocational training, research, innovation and lifelong learning in preparing young people for the country's future.
He also turned to the functioning of democratic institutions, stressing that Parliament must remain a space for constructive debate and discussion, urging elected representatives to engage with issues in the public interest. He called on voters to assess candidates on their integrity, ability and character.
