Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday announced that he got married to journalist Nidhi Razdan on October 30.

"A new journey began yesterday," Omar posted on Instagram, tagging Razdan.

This comes three months after the Supreme Court dissolved Omar's marriage with Payal Abdullah on July 31.

Omar and Payal got married on September 1, 1994. Omar, in his initial divorce petition filed in 2016, argued that the couple had not shared a conjugal relationship since 2007 and had been living separately since 2009. The plea was dismissed by a lower court on grounds of cruelty and desertion. This decision was upheld by the Delhi High Court in December 2023, following which the case moved to the apex court.

Rumours surrounding the relationship between Omar and Razdan first made rounds in 2020, when the former NDTV journalist commented on a tweet posted by the politician after he was released from detention.

In the tweet, Omar shared a photo with his parents, saying, "Had lunch with my mum & dad for the first time in almost 8 months. I can't remember a better meal even though I've been in a bit of a daze & don't remember what I ate."

Replying to this, she wrote, "Welcome back. Now please shave," referring to his long beard.

The rumours resurfaced during Omar's oath-taking ceremony as Jammu and Kashmir chief minister on October 16, 2024. Razdan was spotted at the front row during the swearing-in at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) In Srinagar.
