The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and a potential cyclonic storm moving toward the Andhra Pradesh coast from the Bay of Bengal, affecting multiple states across southern, central, eastern, and northeastern India with widespread showers and thunderstorms.

A "well-marked low-pressure area" lay over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea, and is very likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday. Thereafter, it is very likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coast around the evening of Monday, November 2.

These circumstances can cause isolated, extremely heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 2, and isolated, very heavy rainfall on Tuesday, November 3, the IMD said. According to the weather bureau, isolated, very heavy rainfall is also likely over Odisha on Tuesday, November 3, and Wednesday, November 4.

THE WEEK had earlier reported that Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu should brace for rainfall in the days to come. The regional meteorological department in Tamil Nadu has forecast rain in several parts of the state from November 1 to November 6. Isolated rain with thunderstorms and strong winds gusting up to 30 to 40 km/h can be expected from November 1 to 4.
