Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the government was ready for a special session of the Parliament to discuss allegations of "vote chori", but claimed that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi would not agree.

Addressing BJP workers in Lucknow during the state working committee meeting, Shah said, "I am ready to call a special session of Parliament to discuss vote chori (vote theft allegations). But Rahul baba will never agree. He will never discuss the issue in Parliament but will create a nuisance on the street."

Shah alleged that Rahul and Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav wanted drama on the streets instead of a discussion. "The allegations against the Election Commission are baseless," he added. "After losing the match, they are blaming the umpire and alleging vote theft."

The home minister's remarks came ahead of the INDIA bloc's Chalo Dilli march from the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction to Ramlila Maidan on November 1 at noon.

On Saturday, the Opposition will hold a "public impeachment" of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Sources said former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar will chair the "public impeachment". While Kharge will move the 'motion' to impeach the CEC, Gandhi will make the concluding remarks before it is passed. The event, which was originally scheduled for Friday, was postponed due to rain.

Rahul said both the programmes -- the "public impeachment" and the Chalo Dilli march -- are about the demolition of Indian democracy by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Shah, and CEC Kumar and his crew in the Election Commission.

He also alleged that Shah is trying his best to stop people from coming into Delhi. "Our party people and thousands of common people.... are being stopped. Now you watch what happens at Ramlila Maidan, you watch how many people come and how many people they stop, and you will understand what is going on in the country," he alleged.

In response, BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra rejected Rahul's allegations a "lie" and asked him to stop spreading falsehood and mislead the country.

"Who has been stopped? Who stopped whom and where? Show proof," demanded Patra. "People have not been stopped anywhere."
