Delhi Police Crime Branch has summoned Cockroach Janata Party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka for questioning regarding their unauthorized Jantar Mantar protest, just a day after their release from jail on bail.
A day after Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released from jail on bail, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has summoned them for questioning at its Rajouri Garden office on Thursday. Das and Ranka have been asked to appear at 12 noon on Thursday.
As per reports, this is in regard to the Jantar Mantar protest, over the two cases involving their attempted entry and the unfurling of the national flag. The incident dates back to October 13th and 14th, when Das and Ranka entered the restricted area of Jantar Mantar to protest without permission. Police claim that the leaders blatantly violated the terms of a pre-filled peace bond and flouted government orders.
The special executive magistrate court had released Das and Ranka on Thursday after the expiry of judicial custody. The duo had to give written undertakings that they won't breach peace or call for protests at Jantar Mantar as long as the site remains denotified.
The two were directed to furnish personal bonds and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each until the conclusion of the inquiry.
The order came after the police sought a three-day extension of their judicial custody, arguing that apprehensions of a breach of peace and disturbance of law and order persisted in view of their previous conduct and statements made in the media. The Delhi Police also argued that Das and Ranka had given contradictory statements before the court and in the media regarding their willingness to refrain from similar activities.
Their written reply submitted during Wednesday's proceedings was also cited as being contrary to their earlier submissions, according to the order.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke had welcomed the order on a social media post, stating his willingness to follow orders of Das and Ranka.
"Saurav and Ashu are not just better but much, much bigger leaders than me. Happy to follow your orders, my leaders. Jaan hazir hai!" Dipke said. He added a playful remark in Hindi, saying, "Lekin iske baad mere bina garden mein koi akela nahi ghumega!!! (But after this, don't go alone in the garden without me)".
