In a major setback for detained Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka on Monday were remanded to two more days' judicial custody by the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM).

This comes just hours after CJP legal head Ratna Singh alleged that the public prosecution had made just "mere assumptions", and no proper arguments.

"I haven’t seen anything this absurd in my entire life," she wrote on X, reacting to the two-day extension of judicial custody, and its impact on the pressure group's protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The next SEM hearing is scheduled for October 21.

Notably, the CJP had made similar allegations after the Sunday bail hearing in the SEM court for Das and Ranka, who were remanded to five days' judicial custody on October 14 in connection with unfurling the national flag at Delhi's Jantar Mantar after it was de-notified by the Centre.

Ratna Singh had flagged a number of issues with the "delayed" October 18 SEM hearing, claiming that her team had reached the court at the scheduled time (12:00 PM), whereas the latter had been at the police station by 1:30 PM, but did not enter the courtroom until 5:00 PM.

"When he finally arrived, he refused to hear our case on its merits regarding whether Saurav and Ashutosh should be released from judicial custody. Instead, he made arbitrary remarks," she had told reporters at the time.

The "threatening message" that the SEM allegedly received during the hearing also became a big issue, with Singh claiming it was "decided beforehand" that the court would focus exclusively on the alleged threat, and reject the CJP's four sureties with "vague reasons".

The Delhi Police on Monday registered a non-cognisable report against unidentified persons over the alleged threat against the SEM.

A non-cognisable report generally concerns offences in which the police cannot arrest an accused without a warrant or investigate without the permission of a magistrate, as prescribed by law.

The CJP, however, has maintained that the alleged threat was not connected to Das and Ranka's bail hearing, adding that it was part of the "delay tactics" used against it.
