As the southwest monsoon recedes from Maharashtra, the state is experiencing a surge in temperatures and humidity, leading to hot and muggy conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heat and humidity in key coastal districts like Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, with temperatures in Mumbai reaching 36 degrees Celsius. The monsoon withdrawal is progressing, with further retreat expected in the coming days. While most of the state will experience dry and warm weather, localized thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are anticipated in certain ghat areas and Gadchiroli district. Residents are advised to take precautions against heat stress and seek shelter during lightning activity.

As the southwest monsoon begins its seasonal withdrawal across Maharashtra, temperatures and humidity levels have surged, triggering hot and muggy conditions statewide. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for hot and humid weather across Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, signalling uncomfortable October heat as monsoon currents recede.

The maximum temperature in Mumbai has reached 36 degrees Celsius, and the atmosphere is to remain hot throughout the day.

According to the IMD's latest bulletin, the monsoon has already withdrawn from nearly half of Maharashtra. Over the next two to three days, the retreat is expected to extend further into Marathwada and most parts of Vidarbha.

While coastal districts, including Mumbai and the Konkan belt, brace for sweltering daytime temperatures, localised convective activity continues in parts of Western Maharashtra and Eastern Vidarbha. The IMD has issued a separate yellow alert for isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning across the ghat areas of Satara and Kolhapur, as well as Gadchiroli district.

Mainly dry and warm conditions are set to dominate the rest of the state. However, the combination of high humidity and elevated daytime temperatures will keep uncomfortable conditions persistent throughout the week, particularly along the coast.

Health authorities and meteorologists have advised residents across Mumbai and Konkan to take necessary precautions against heat stress, stay well-hydrated, and limit direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours. Residents in thunderstorm-alert zones have also been urged to take shelter during lightning activity.
