Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has strongly condemned CPI M leader P Nandakumar's alleged remarks that characterized Malappuram district as a hub of fundamentalists and communalists. Satheesan accused the CPI M of tacitly endorsing this communal rhetoric, pointing out that the remarks were made in the presence of opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan without objection. The Chief Minister demanded that Vijayan and the CPI central leadership clarify their stance on the issue and called for an unconditional apology from both Nandakumar and the CPI M. He emphasized the unwavering commitment to protecting Kerala's secular fabric and warned of strict legal action against anyone propagating communal hatred. This controversy was sparked by remarks made by Nandakumar at a CPIM district committee meeting in Malappuram, which led to police complaints filed by Muslim Youth League workers.

Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has condemned CPI M leader P Nandakumar’s alleged remarks describing Malappuram district as a nest og fundamentalists and communalists, accusing the the party of endorsing communal rhetoric.

He said that the statement by the leader was a continuation of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's anti-Malappuram statement.

In a series of posts on Facebook, C Satheesan demanded that Vijayan, the leader of the opposition and the CPI central leadership clarify their stance on the issues. He warned of strict action against anyone who makes communal remarks.

"Strongly condemn the communal slurs made by CPI leader P Nandakumar denigrating the people of Malappuram as fundamentalists," the CM said on X.

Satheesan said that the unacceptable rhetoric was delivered in the presence of Vijayan without any objection from the party leadership.

"This clearly exposes the CPI's tacit endorsement," he contended.

“Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan and the CPI(M) central leadership must break their silence and clarify their stance to the public. Both the CPI(M) and P. Nandakumar must tender an unconditional apology to the people of Keralam. Let there be no ambiguity: Keralam’s secular fabric will be protected at all costs. Anyone who attempts to peddle communal hatred will face strict and uncompromising legal action.” Saatheesan wrote.

The row began after Nandalimar made some remarks while delivering a welcome address at the extended CPIM district committee meeting in Malappuram on Saturday.

Vijayan was among the senior party leaders present at the meeting,

Following the remarks, Muslim Youth League workers subsequently filed police complaints again against the party leader at Ponnani police station.
