The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates favorable conditions for the further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana in the coming days. Residents in Goa, Konkan, and central Maharashtra can expect isolated to scattered rainfall on October 7 and 8, although hot and humid conditions are likely to persist in Konkan and Goa until Monday. This withdrawal is being facilitated by increasing dry-air intrusion into Maharashtra, supported by an anticyclonic circulation over Rajasthan.

Conditions are likely to become favourable for the further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana in the next two to three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in an official release on Sunday.

Residents of Goa, Konkan, and central Maharashtra should expect isolated to scattered rainfall on October 7 and 8 (Wednesday and Thursday), the weather forecast said. However, as per the IMD, hot and humid conditions are likely to persist over Konkan and Goa until Monday. "The line of withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon continues to pass through 27.5°N/86.5°E, Supaul, Ranchi, Raipur, Brahmapuri, Parbhani, Baramati, Harnai and 17.5°N/71.8°E," IMD said.

Conditions for the monsoon's withdrawal are expected to become more favourable as conditions align for the further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from most parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha.

"The decline in rainfall activity is being accompanied by increasing dry-air intrusion into Maharashtra. An anticyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and adjoining areas is helping push dry air towards the state," Mid-Day said in a report.

It was earlier reported by the weather department that 20 out of the 36 districts of Maharashtra have recorded deficient rainfall. Region-wise, the highest deficiency was recorded in Marathwada, with all its districts except Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recording a deficiency in the range of minus 34 to 49 per cent.

Only Palghar and Nashik districts have received excess rainfall this monsoon, the IMD said. Thane, Mumbai Suburban, Mumbai City, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Dhule, Buldhana, Jalgaon, Gondia, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have received normal rainfall.

The highest rain deficit was recorded in Solapur (minus 58 per cent), followed by Beed (minus 51 per cent), Hingoli (minus 49 per cent), Jalna (minus 48 per cent), Ahilyanagar (minus 46 per cent), and Dharashiv (minus 45 per cent).
