Mamata All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) supremo Mamata Banerjee left for Delhi on Tuesday to attend the INDIA bloc meeting scheduled for Wednesday. The key focus of the meeting is the demand for the ouster of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, following media reports alleging his involvement in discrepancies during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

“I am going to join the INDIA alliance,” said Mamata Banerjee while leaving for the airport.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari termed the meeting as a discussion with ‘dimagi naxals’ as they chant ‘azadi’ slogans.

“She is going to have a discussion with 'dimagi naxals'. Those who chant 'azadi' slogans, everyone knows what they can do. I will tell Delhi Police and central IB to keep an eye out to ensure there is no meeting with anti-national forces. She is the main force of the 'dimagi' naxal. On one hand are the 'Jamaits' and on the other hand are the dimagi naxals. They are walking with both,” said Suvendu Adhikari on the sidelines of an event.

CPIM General Secretary M.A. Baby had sent a letter to Mamata and spoke to her on Friday. Mamata has opposed the Left Front in the past over several issues, including the anti-land acquisition protests in Singur and Nandigram, but both parties are putting those differences aside and coming together to be a formidable force as the INDIA Bloc.

The main objective is to combat the BJP over allegations of using technology to keep genuine voters off the SIR list, alongside concerns over discrepancies raised 14 times in 10 months by Election Commissioners Vivek Joshi and Sukhbir Sandhu.

Mamata has gained ammunition with recent allegations working to her advantage as she makes her voice heard against the BJP. The MAITC supremo finds herself in a minority following assembly election results that went against her, alongside the fragmentation of her party's MLAs and MPs. Banerjee hopes to use the national platform to show that, despite her reduced standing in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and cracks within her party, she remains a force to be reckoned with against the saffron forces.
