Punjab police have reportedly scanned 100 hours of CCTV footage from Lovely Professional University (LPU) to gather clues about the identity of the female student whom students claim was raped on campus.

LPU Pro Chancellor Dr (Col) Rashmi Mittal appealed to students to remain calm and verify information before acting on social media posts after the vandalism and violence that took place on the campus over the weekend.

Multiple questions were raised over how the initial peaceful protests turned into vandalism of the university's campus.

Many students alleged that the protests were hijacked by influencers who did not belong to the campus.

Meanwhile, one LPU student posted a video on Instagram alleging that one of the students who is also an influencer, Farhat Dev, was responsible for triggering the vandalism. Ramya Mishra alleged that Farhat Dev was the first person to enter the DSW on the night the incident began on campus.

She said that the Farhat invited another student inside. That student then broke the cameras before the vandalism followed.

Meanwhile, Farhat Dev issued a statement on his Instagram denying the claims. He said that he was being accused of things he didn't do. He said he wasn't alone there and wasn't fully aware of what was happening. Dev claimed that he was simply protesting for the safety of the students.

In one video, Farhat Dev is seen sitting among students with a bandage on his arm. He says that he was injured by glass. He also alleged that the molestation and sexual harassment were commonplace at the university and that female students felt unsafe.

In another video, a group is seen threatening Farhat Dev for supporting the protest by the female students.

The allegations made by Mishra have not been independently verified.

Mishra also attached the CCTV footage showing the persons who entered the trophy room.

The protests at the university began peacefully with students participating in a sit-in protest demanding justice. However, it soon escalated into violence, vandalism and looting.

A group of miscreants, which included both students and outsiders, entered Uni Mall inside the campus and smashed shop windows and broke doors before looting.

One video showed three to four men leaving the mall with laptop packages and phones. Clothes were also stolen.

Three disciplinary committees were formed to investigate the students involved in arson and violence. About 30 to 40 students are under investigation.

Dean of Student Welfare Professor Saurabh Lakhanpal meanwhile told Aaj Tak that the student in the video was indeed Farhat Dev and that he was called in for questioning.
