At least four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were killed in a fratricide incident at a hydel power project in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, officials said.

The four personnel were allegedly shot by a CISF head constable following a verbal argument at the Sewa-II Hydroelectric Project unit, according to officials quoted by news agency ANI.

The incident took place around 7 pm. The deceased included an assistant commandant.

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, Constables Sanjeev Kumar, and Mohd. Rafiq. 

According to media reports, the CISF personnel were deployed at a camp at the Sewa-II hydel power project in Kathua when the shooting occurred.

The accused, identified as  Abhidesh Singh, used an AK-47. The four personnel sustained serious bullet injuries and later succumbed to their injuries.

Officials said the accused is a 2009-batch head constable of the CISF. He allegedly opened fire following an argument among the personnel over an issue.

According to officials, an argument took place between two jawans over some issue and later one of them opened indiscriminate firing causing the fatalities.

The exact reason behind the fratricide is not yet known.

The accused head constable has been handed over to the police, officials said.

The CISF is also setting up an internal inquiry into the incident to examine the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Senior officers have rushed to the scene and further details are awaited, according to news agency PTI.
