The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that the drizzle and rain in several northern states would continue for a few more days from Rajasthan to Bengal.

In a recent bulletin, the IMD said that the rains are set to continue due to the influence of a depression formed over the northern Andaman Sea and the adjoining Myanmar coast and an active Western Disturbance over Northwest India. The department said that the disturbance would bring rain, thunderstorms and strong winds to the region.

Rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely at some places in eastern Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh- Delhi, Punjab, and western Uttar Pradesh in the next few days.

The IMD said that the low-pressure area over the north Andaman Sea off the Myanmar coast intensified into a depression on the morning of September 28. By evening, the depression would cross the Myanmar coast between Yangon and Kyaikto.

The weather system is set to bring heavy rainfall and winds of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour to the Andaman Islands on September 28th and 29th.

On September 28, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Deeg, Dholpur, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Khairthal-Tijara, Kotputli-Behror and Sikar in eastern Rajasthan can expect thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain.

There is also a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning and strong winds in Bikaner, Churu, Didwana-Kuchaman, Hanumangarh, Nagaur and Sriganganagar in western Rajasthan.

The thunderstorms are also set to take over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura on September 29. The rainy conditions are expected to last till September 30.

There is also a cyclonic circulation that is active around the north-west of Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas in the lower troposphere. There was also a low-pressure area over the northern parts of central UP bringing rains; however, the area has dissipated.

Meanwhile, a western disturbance or a cyclonic circulation remains over northern Pakistan and adjoining Jammu at a height of 5.8-7.6 km above mean sea level.

Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand and the Andaman and Nicobar.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Andaman Sea, northeastern Bay of Bengal and the Myanmar and Bangladesh coasts until October 1.
