The Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Saturday registered a clean sweep in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections 2026, winning three of the four contested posts.

The ABVP's Yash Dabas won the post of president amid tight competition, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen was elected vice-president. Riya Chhawdi secured the secretary post, while Lakshya Raj Singh won the joint secretary post.

This comes after a four-sided battle with the ABVP, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the AISA-SFI alliance, and independent candidates in the fray for key positions.

The counting of votes began at 8 AM on Saturday at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in the DU's North Campus.

The presidential race saw the highest competition, with the lead changing several times, with overall voter turnout reaching 40.46 per cent, based on voting data received from all 52 polling centres, as per local media reports.

In the presidential race, Dabas polled 24,576 votes, defeating NSUI's Vijai Shankar Meena by a whopping 2,053 votes.

"I promise you that, just as I have been among you for the past 6 years fighting for you, I will continue to fight for you throughout the entire year," the newly-elected DUSU president told IANS.

Shokeen registered 30,615 votes as an independent after being denied an NSUI ticket.

“This struggle that I have undertaken for the students of Delhi University will continue in the same way. I will be their voice and fight for their rights," Shokeen told PTI.

For the joint secretary's post, Riya Chhawdi secured 16,615 votes against 15,778 votes polled by the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha candidate, whereas in the secretary's race, Lakshya Raj Singh polled 21,650 votes against the NSUI candidate's 14,869 votes.

With this, the ABVP has repeated its three-post sweep from last year, while the NSUI, whose candidate had won the vice-president seat last year, did not land a single win.

More than 1.51 lakh students were eligible to vote in the election, of which day-college students voted between 8:30 AM to 1 PM on Friday, while evening-college students voted between 3 PM and 7:30 PM.
