BJP leader and former Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu on Friday alleged that his convoy and vehicles were attacked while he was on his way to Pathankot to attend a BJP yatra. 

He claimed that eggs and tomatoes were thrown at his convoy. Around 500 people, some carrying weapons, attacked his cavalcade, he said. 

Bittu was on his way to participate in the party's anti-drug yatra. 

He blamed the ruling AAP for the attack and alleged that those surrounding his vehicle heard shouting, "Surround them, beat them, kill them." 

"Today, we were supposed to take out a yatra against drugs because this Aam Aadmi Party government and drug addicts are all colluding, and this is what they have been doing for the last four and a half years," Bittu said. "There were around 500 people there. I passed through them in my vehicle. I have Z-plus security, with around 100 security personnel accompanying me," he added. 

"I do not know who these people are, but their phones are active at the moment...They are continuously saying, 'Surround them, beat them, kill them'...Windows of the vehicles were broken," he narrated the incident. 

Reportedly, Bittu's office said that his security team caught three people allegedly linked to the AAP following the incident. 

Expressing concerns over the safety of political leaders and workers, his office described the incident as a "grave threat to democracy". 

It further added that if anything happens to Bittu, the CM of Punjab and the DGP Punjab would be held responsible for his safety and security. 

"If we lose today itself, then how are we going to fight the battle against drugs and for the people?...This is why we have undertaken this yatra," Bittu said. 

BJP national president Nitin Nabin is scheduled to flag off the party's yatra from Pathankot on Friday. 

Bittu, who was earlier with the Congress, joined the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He served as the Minister of State for Railways and the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries from 2024 to 2026.
