Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari took part in the Gerua Samman Yatra, or Walk for Saffron Pride, from Gol Park to Jadavpur University on Wednesday, sending out a strong message that the saffron wave is here to sweep the gates of the educational institution.

Not just BJP leaders and supporters, but those supporting the Sanatani and Hindutva ideology were also present at the rally. Sadhus and supporters dressed in saffron were among those who took part in the march.

“At the call of the Sanatani culture, we will come back to teach those within the country who are disrespecting saffron and the country. We will come back twice with the Gita Path and Hanuman Chalisa,” said Suvendu Adhikari after reaching the end point at 8B bus stand in Jadavpur.

The CM also vowed to restore nationalism inside the university premises. 

“Kashmir manage azadi, free Palistine, Kisenji red salute. The Chief Minister of West Bengal knows how to clean the environment.”

The CM also gave a call for the transfer of teaching faculty within Jadavpur University, for which a bill will be tabled in the West Bengal assembly on Thursday at 11 am.

Meanwhile saffron supporters walking in the rally stopped in front of the university gates, which were locked since 4 pm, shouting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ slogans.

“There are some dimagi naxals within the university who say Kashmir maange azadi. That the people of Kashmir will say. They (university students) speak against the country. Today we have a nationalist government. We will not allow this to happen within the university,” said one rally participant.

“We have come here for our respect. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has said that those who disrespect saffron, we will not tolerate it. There will be saffron everywhere,” said another rally-goer.

While there was calmness within the university premises without any protest by Left wing students, the fight for freedom of thought and expression continues. Last month, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) supporters who support the RSS ideology, held a similar rally, where a scuffle ensued with bottles and shoes thrown at each other as Left-wing students stood in protest within the premises of the locked gates. ABVP students allegedly defaced the emblem on the university gate.
