The death toll in the building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area rose to six, while a total of 11 people have been rescued from the debris so far.

The 50-year-old multi-storey building, which housed a boys’ paying guest accommodation near Delhi University’s South Campus, collapsed around 1.30 pm on Sunday while repair work was underway.

According to reports, around 20–25 students are still feared trapped under the rubble. Multiple agencies, including the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force and Delhi Disaster Management Authority, have been carrying out rescue operations.

"One more person was rescued during the night but was brought dead, taking the toll to six," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said on Monday.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said in a statement that 10 injured people have been admitted to its trauma centre.

"Four were brought dead, while one patient who was in critical condition later succumbed to his injuries. Three patients have been admitted and are being treated. One patient underwent a surgery of limb, and another who had sustained a minor injury was discharged after observation," AIIMS said.

Police have booked building owner Hariram and others on charges of culpable homicide, negligence in upkeep of a structure, and endangering the safety of others.

"The building was a PG. It is alleged that renovation work was being undertaken at the Ground Floor, which led to the collapse of the building. Multiple teams have been formed to trace the alleged persons," the police said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the police commissioner and NDRF Director General to review the situation.

Gupta visited the collapse site and later ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.

The building collapsed around 1.30 pm while undergoing repairs on its ground floor. Locals claimed that the accumulation of water in the basement over several days of rain had weakened the building’s foundation, leading to its eventual collapse.
