On the centenary birth anniversary of noted Bengali actor Uttam Kumar, CM Suvendu Adhikari paid a floral tribute on Thursday morning at the statue of the icon in the presence of Tollywood actors.

The CM also inaugurated an exhibition on the actor later in the evening. Also, the Uttam Kumar Film Festival will start on Friday to honour the actor by screening a plethora of his films. These form part of the programmes to pay tribute to the actor. 

Adhikari spoke about the actor’s fan following, saying that the sheer number of people present at the event to pay homage to the iconic actor spoke volumes about Kumar.

“We don’t have the gumption to give a certificate, he is truly a superhero,” said CM Suvendu Adhikari, while also praising PM Narendra Modi for paying tribute to Kumar on his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ series on August 30.

“He spoke about the superhero for five minutes. Before I could post on social media, PM Modi posted early morning about the superhero from his personal account. The entire country is proud of this day,” added Adhikari.   

PM Modi paid a tribute to the actor on social media, remembering his contribution to the Bengali film industry. He noted the actor’s timeless performances still strike a chord with the audiences of today.

The CM added that there are many more initiatives revolving around Uttam Kumar, saying that the goal for his government was celebrate the actor in a way that would leave an indelible mark on future generations, unlike the previous government.

The BJP is striking a cultural chord with the people of West Bengal to portray that the party takes the cultural ethos of the land seriously.

However, the erstwhile Trinamool Congress (TMC) government has attacked the BJP, calling it an outsider party disconnected with the culture and heritage of the state. Though the TMC has been defeated, the saffron party is making all efforts to keep the cultural connect with the people and show that it is the BJP that was always part of the Bengali identity.
