Among the victims of the latest Russian strikes on Ukraine is an Indian citizen who reached Europe a few months ago in search of employment, reports said on Wednesday. The victim was identified as 42-year-old Vavilala Sudarshan Goud, a native of Husnabad village in Telangana's Jagtial district.

Sudarshan Goud was hired by a construction firm after reaching Kyiv four months ago. According to a television news channel, Vavilala Sudarshan Goud was killed in Odesa while leaving for cover after the air raid sirens sounded. The missile struck his accommodation complex before he could reach cover, the report said.

Meanwhile, another Telangana native suffered injuries in the attack, NDTV said in a report. He was identified as 35-year-old Ganesh Kalleda. The news of Sudarshan's death reached his family members through a man named Venu from Tatipalli village, who lives in Ukraine, News Meter said in a report.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian national in an attack in Ukraine. The Embassy is in touch with the bereaved family and extends its deepest condolences. We are providing all possible assistance for early repatriation of the mortal remains. In this regard, the Embassy is in contact with his company and the Ukrainian authorities," the Indian Embassy in Ukraine said in a post on X.

"Overall, 12 people were killed, among them an Indian citizen, and dozens more were injured in the attack... My condolences to everyone who has lost loved ones and those close to them," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. He added that Russia used guided aerial bombs and drone strikes to target Odesa and the surrounding region.

According to Reuters, the Russian attack cut power to a large part of Ukraine's southern Black Sea region of Odesa. Meanwhile, the strikes on the capital, Kyiv, entered their seventh day.

In a tactic deployed since last week, Moscow has been sending swarms of drones, many of them fast-flying, jet-powered models, to plague Kyiv and the surrounding region. On Tuesday, Russian air attacks killed 12 people in the region, officials said. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram on Wednesday that seven people were injured and a six-storey residential building was partially destroyed after a drone strike, while a nearby three-storey building was ablaze.
