Retired Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, who was appointed as the first chief executive officer (CEO) of the Ayodhya Ram Temple on Wednesday, attributed his new role to the blessings of the deity.
Mishra, who headed the Western Air Command during Operation Sindoor, said, "I am grateful to Lord Ram."
The selection committee received 5,585 applications. Mishra was chosen from a shortlist of three candidates. He hails from Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh and has served in the Indian Air Force receiving several military decorations, including the Yudh Seva Medal.
"I consider this a great fortune that they chose me from so many candidates. I also consider this the blessings of Lord Ram that after 43 years of service to the nation in the Air Force, He has given me the opportunity serve Sri Ram Mandir and devotees," Mishra told ANI.
He also thanked the selection committee and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust for choosing him. "I pray to God to grant me the capability so that I can shoulder it well," he said.
Besides Mishra, former treasurer Govind Dev Giri was appointed the new general secretary and Mahesh Bhagchandka was chosen as the new treasurer.
The new trustees inducted on Wednesday included Madan Mohan Pandey of Ayodhya, Bhagchandka of Delhi and Dr Nirmala Yadav of Shikohabad.
The latest appointments come after donation thefts at the temple. Former general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra resigned after the controversy. Eight other involved in the counting of donations were arrested in the case based on an SIT report.
