A 30-year-old Defence Ministry official was found dead at her residence in Delhi’s Dwarka on Friday.

The deceased Naziya Khanam worked as an Assistant Section Officer in the Ministry of Defence and was about 3 months pregnant when she was found dead.

She was married to Azam Ali Khan on April 11 this year.

Khanam’s family has alleged that she died by suicide after she faced continuous physical and mental harassment from her husband and in-laws.

According to an FIR filed by Khanam’s father, her husband, mother-in-law Samin Naziya, father-in-law Babar Ali Khan, and other members of her in-laws’ family were harassing her continuously.

She had informed her family about the alleged harassment during phone calls.

The family received a phone call informing them that Naziya died by suicide on August 21 at around 4 am.

Her family alleged that she was killed by her in-laws and that the death was being made to appear as a suicide.

They said that the continuous mental and physical harassment pushed Naziya to take the extreme step.

Naziya’s father alleged that she was also threatened with being thrown out of the house and killed.

The family has demanded an FIR against those responsible, along with a post-mortem examination and videography of the evidence.

According to the woman's husband's statement to the police had she had locked herself in a room after an argument with her husband. He later came and found Naziya hanging from the window.

A case has been registered under the relevant section of the BNS relating to cruelty by husband and his relatives and abetment of suicide.
