Adding a unique twist to the traditional concept of a langar, Amritsar-based Rakesh Trehan is organising a community initiative which provides free petrol to people at select fuel stations. 

The initiative, termed “Petrol langar”, is scheduled to start at 5pm on Tuesday (August 18). The fuel will be provided at Sidhu Petrol Pump in Sector 7 and HP Pump in Sector 10, Chandigarh. 

Trehan shared a video message in which he explains the details through which people can avail themselves of fuel coupons. They will be distributed by Trehan in front of Oberoi Motors in Chandigarh. 

Coupons of ₹500 for two-wheelers or three-wheelers and ₹1000 for four-wheelers will be distributed. He added that the only eligibility required to receive a coupon will be saying “Jai Mata Di.” The coupons can be redeemed for fuel worth the respective price at the designated petrol pumps. 

Trehan, popularly known as “Raja D King”, hosted another unconventional langar last week, wherein he distributed ₹500 currency notes outside a temple in Chandigarh. 

The initiative was called ‘paison ka langar’, where he also provided McDonald’s burgers and cold drinks. 

Who is Raja D King? 

Rakesh Trehan is a crypto trader and has been investing in the markets since 2010. Raja explained that his father, who was in the textile trade, passed away and that he has been using the inherited wealth to drive his investments. Local media reports indicate that he allegedly spends a portion of his Bitcoin profits on community service activities. 

According to the information from reports, his next proposed idea is an “iPhone langar”, under which iPhones are to be distributed free of cost. Further details regarding the distribution are unknown. 

Langar traditionally refers to a free community meal and is commonly associated with Sikh religious institutions. Extending the concept to petrol, cash and food has raised curiosity among Chandigarh residents.
