A suicide note left by the family cited significant harassment from a rifle shooting organizer as the reason behind the decision

In an incident that occurred in Rajamahendravaram in Andhra Pradesh, a 61-year-old man, Nukaraju, along with his family members, attempted to die by suicide by jumping into the Godavari River. The family members included his 59-year-old wife, Meena, his 34-year-old daughter, Soujanya, and his grandson.
Nukuraju’s 10-year-old grandson survived by swimming and was found by fishermen. He was safely brought back to the shore and taken to the hospital. However, the other three members are yet to be found.
Upon receiving the information, the Rajamahendravaram town police reached the spot. A widespread search operation has been launched by the SDRF, fire brigade personnel and divers to find the missing family in the Godavari.
Police officials said that the family had travelled from Kakinada to Rajamahendravaram. The car driver was dropped off at Kovvur, and the family continued to Rajamahendravaram. Their car was later found on the Godavari Road-cum-Rail Bridge within the city.
The family was residing in the Nagamalli Thota Junction area of Kakinada. Nukaraju was working as an Assistant Engineer at the Panchayat Raj in Pithapuram.
The family left behind a suicide note explaining their drastic decision. Nukaraju had posted the note in a group of friends and family.
According to local media reports, the suicide note cites harassment from a rifle shooting organiser named Sheikh Shadi Khan as the reason behind the decision. The man was allegedly harassing Nukaraju’s daughter following the death of her husband in July. The note also alleged that his daughter and grandson faced a threat to their lives from the man.
The note added that Shadi Khan had promised to help their daughter but had taken possession of money, bank accounts and valuables. The family had asked the district collector to take strict action against Khan.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and the allegations made in the note.
