Public anger over paper leaks in exams like NEET and TET, which were followed by massive protests by the CJP, resulting in the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, has forced a rethink of the recruitment examination process in Maharashtra. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Wednesday, formed a high-level panel to completely overhaul the exam system.
Fadnavis has now appointed a high-level committee to review and recommend changes and reforms to make recruitment exams more secure, credible, and transparent.
The committee will be headed by Additional Chief Secretary V. Radha and comprises Director General of Police Sadanand Date, IT Secretary Virendra Singh, Animal Husbandry Secretary N. Ramaswamy, and Nashik Division Commissioner Pravin Gedam.
The first committee, headed by the chief secretary of the state, was constituted on June 17 to examine possibilities of holding all government recruitment exams online. The committee announced will be the second committee aimed at overhauling government recruitment exam procedures.
The committee will travel to all revenue divisions of Maharashtra and hold meetings and discussions with students, teachers, and management of educational institutions to take into consideration their views. A draft policy will be formulated by the state government based on these discussions held by the V. Radha committee.
The government will also ensure excellent coordination between collectors, SPs, police commissioners, and education department officials when recruitment exams are held. Fadnavis has also ordered the construction of 25,000 secure classrooms to safely conduct recruitment exam procedures.
It may be recalled that the Maharashtra Teachers Eligibility Test 2026 had to be postponed after police recovered a leaked question paper. An SIT headed by the Thane Joint Commissioner of Police was appointed to probe the paper leaks. Also, the CBI has apprehended key persons from Latur and Pune in connection with the NEET UG paper leak case.
