The discovered items were reportedly hidden between his clothes, and Revanna allegedly claimed ignorance about their origin. This significant security lapse has resulted in the suspension of Assistant Superintendent Iranna Rangapur and a show-cause notice being issued to Central Prison SP Anshukumar. The raid, which also included searches of other VIP prisoners' cells, has reignited concerns about the security system and the potential for special privileges granted to influential inmates. Former Janata Dal (U) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is serving a life sentence in a rape case, is in for more trouble after a surprise Central Crime Branch (CCB) raid at the high-security barracks at Parappana Agrahara revealed he had been keeping a mobile phone and a pen drive.  

The police seized an Android phone and a pen drive hidden between the clothes. Prajwal shares the cell with another convict named Pratap Rai. He was reportedly “indifferent” and claimed not to know the things.

DG Alok Kumar has also ordered Prajwal to inform the police by noon about who gave him the mobile phone. Failure to do so will result in him being shifted to another barrack, the prison authorities claimed.

The prison administration has taken strict action against Assistant Superintendent Iranna Rangapur who has been suspended from service. A show-cause notice has also been issued to Central Prison SP Anshukumar.

Interestingly, no prohibited items were found when the prison authorities searched Prajwal Barracks on August 6, 2026. Local media reports claim this reveals that the mobile phone came in within the last few days.

Besides Prajwal’s barracks, the ones of several VIP prisoners, including actor Darshan’s, were searched in a drive that lasted for 5 to 6 hours.

The discovery of a mobile phone with a high-profile prisoner in the highly secured facility has raised a series of questions about the security system of the jail. Earlier too, there were allegations that influential prisoners were being given special privileges in this jail. Similar allegations were made in the case of actor Darshan too.

Recently, Prajwal won a major relief when the special court allowed him to meet his family, relatives and friends inside the prison.  The Special Court of People's Representatives has given an order in this regard and has instructed the Chief Superintendent of Parappana Agrahara Jail to allow the convict to visit as per the rules. It has instructed the Chief Superintendent of Parappana Agrahara Jail to strictly follow the prison rules during the visit.
