Sourav Ganguly and wife Donna receive death threats: Police launch investigation

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly’s office has filed a complaint at Thakurpukur police station, stating that he and his wife, Donna Ganguly, have received multiple death threats over the past few months.

The complaint, dated August 10, was written by Sourav Ganguly’s personal secretary, Tanya Bhattacharya. It states that, for the past couple of months, they have been receiving letters from an unknown person containing objectionable remarks against the former Indian cricket captain.

“Initially, we did not pay attention to these letters, assuming they were merely the work of someone who disliked Mr Ganguly and was expressing his/her personal resentment,” the police complaint states.

According to the complaint, two letters containing threats were received on Monday, raising serious concerns about the safety and security of the Ganguly family and their staff.

“The nature of the threats contained in the letters has caused serious concern among us. Since the letters have now escalated from hate/dislike communication to explicit threats to life and personal safety, we believe that the matter requires immediate police intervention and investigation,” the complaint further states.

The complaint has been submitted to the Director of the Security and Intelligence Department. The name and phone number of the alleged sender have been mentioned in the complaint, and the letters containing the death threats have been handed over to the police.

Investigators are also trying to trace the details associated with the SIM card mentioned in the complaint. Police are investigating the motive behind the threats and are also trying to determine whether the letters were sent by a single individual or if others were involved.
