Former Jharkhand Public Service Commission Chairman L Khiangte has been arrested by the CID. 

Khiangte may be presented before the court on Monday evening after an interrogation.

The arrest was made as part of the CID's investigation into alleged irregularities in JCPSC’s 14th examination.

The development comes amid massive student protests in the state. Earlier, the CID also raided the JPSC headquarters.

L Khiangte recently resigned as the Chairman of the JPSC amid the investigation into the controversy surrounding the 14th combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination.

Former Member Ajita Bhattacharya was also questioned in the investigation. He has resigned from his post on Sunday.

The CID is likely to expand the investigation to the financial transactions of the individuals involved.

Reports say that the it was revealed that an alleged transaction of Rs 2 crore was involved in the case. Officials have not confirmed the information.

The CID had already arrested 19 last week in relation to the case. Four of the accused were former aspirants who passed the examination, while others included several employees of  TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL), a Lucknow-based company that conducted examinations for the JPSC.

Several employees of TDPL, including its director Ramveer Singh, marketing manager Abhay Tiwari, accountant Rakshak Singh and technical programmers Usman and Ebad, were arrested.

From the JPSC, Deputy Controller of Examinations Shweta Kumari Gupta, staff member Sonu Kumar and computer operator Dharmendra Kumar have also been arrested.

The key demands by the protesters include the cancellation of 13 of the JSSC-CGL examinations, a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities and reforms in the recruitment process.

Protesting students have maintained that the government have not fully met the demands, saying that only 3 of the exams were cancelled so far.

The adoption of an exam reform model is also proposed by the students, along with a fixed recruitment calendar to ensure examinations and appointments are conducted on schedule.
