The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced special services for passengers travelling from Bengaluru to various parts of Kerala for Onam celebrations. Luxury multi-axle Volvo, EV Power Plus, sleeper, and Rajahamsa buses have all been deployed for the special operations.

According to Kannada media reports, 90 additional special buses have been arranged from Bengaluru to major cities in Kerala in light of the heavy rush expected during the festival. Onam, the official state festival of Kerala, falls on August 26, Wednesday (Thiruvonam). The festival being a ten-day affair means the Keralite workforce will be heading home starting the third week of the month.

KSRTC's special buses will leave for major cities in Kerala from Bengaluru's Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic), Satellite Bus Station (Mysore Road), and Shantinagar Bus Station, news outlet TV9 Kannada said in a report. Destinations include Kannur, Kochi, Palakkad, Thrissur, and the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram, the report noted.

To avoid a last-minute rush, KSRTC has enabled passengers to book tickets online in advance through its official website. With tickets for regular services filling up fast, the transport corporation has urged passengers to check the schedule and route details of additional buses on its website and make use of the booking facility.

What about trains?

It was earlier reported that considering the heavy rush to the southern state during the Onam season, Indian Railways has announced 112 special services to and from Kerala. Southern Railway will operate 54 services, while other railway zones will operate the remaining 58.

The services will operate to and from Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram from Chennai Central, Tambaram, Chennai Egmore, and Mangaluru Central. In addition, special services will also operate from Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi, Hyderabad, and Cherlapally.
