Delhi commuters faced severe disruptions on Friday as heavy rains submerged key stretches across the city, triggering massive traffic jams in areas including Kapashera and Badarpur.

Incidents of house and wall collapse were reported in the city, while at least 16 trees fella and disrupted traffic. Meanwhile, MCD has received complaints of waterlogging at three places and NDMC at 15 places.

Waterlogging were received in Gadaipur, Karmapura, and near Axis Bank in Karol Bagh.

Heavy rains are expected in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram in the next 24 hours on Saturday. Delhi Traffic Police and Administration have issued a special advisory for commuters.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert in different parts of the city.

The national capital has also recorded its highest August rainfall in 15 years, receiving 127 mm of rain in just the first week of the month.

IMD forecast for other states

Heavy rainfall is set to lash large parts of India on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread precipitation across northwestern, central, eastern, northeastern, and western regions.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, is expected across several parts of the country.

Northern India is bracing for widespread rain on Saturday, with heavy downpours expected across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. Meanwhile, isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan are likely to see heavy rainfall, while East Rajasthan could experience heavy to very heavy precipitation in isolated areas.

Widespread rain will continue across eastern India, covering Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. The weather office has also issued a warning for very heavy rainfall in Odisha on August 8.

Heavy rainfall forecast is also issued for isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states.

Southern and peninsular India are also expected to experience significant rainfall.
