Several parts of Karnataka are likely to receive rainfall on Friday, an official forecast has reportedly said.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), moderate rainfall is likely at many places in Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Ballari, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Kodagu, Hassan and Vijayanagara districts. Winds could blow at speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph in these places.

However, heavy showers can reportedly be expected at isolated places in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Shivamogga districts.

As per the weather forecast, coastal Karnataka in particular should expect rainfall on Friday. Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall in at least one or two places. Local media reports said that these places will also witness strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.

Meanwhile, Shivamogga district in southern interior Karnataka is also likely to receive heavy rain at isolated places, with wind speeds expected to reach 40 to 50 kmph, TV9 Kannada said in a report. A heavy rainfall alert has also been issued for Chikkamagaluru district, it added.

Towards the northern region, light to moderate rain is likely at many places in Bagalkote, Bidar, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Dharwad, Haveri and Yadgir districts. The showers in Belagavi are likely to be stronger in comparison to these places, the report added.

Earlier this week, widespread rainfall had lashed the coastal belt under the influence of active southwest monsoon conditions over the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. This had forced the state disaster monitoring authorities to issue alerts for the coastal districts, warning of sustained surface winds of 30-40 kmph and isolated spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
