Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor has made a comeback with his unassailable lead in Bankipur assembly bypoll in Bihar. He secured 15,864 votes over his nearest rival, BJP's Neeraj Kumar, after the latest round of counting.

Taking a dig at Samrat Choudhary, the JSP supremo said Bihar wants a good CM. "(Bihar's voters) want a good chief minister who can improve education, create employment opportunities for the youth, and ensure that the children of Bihar do not have to migrate elsewhere for work... We do not want to become MLAs merely to award contracts. Our sole objective is the development of Bihar," he said.

Responding to the stunner in the BJP bastion, Kishor said the "30-year fort has collapsed in just 30 days. It has fallen because the people of Bihar now want governments to rise above four-five kilos of free ration and caste politics and work for their children's education and employment."

Celebrations broke out at the Jan Suraaj Party headquarters and outside the counting centre at A.N. College in Patna, with supporters dancing to the tunes of local songs and distributing sweets.

The bypoll in Bankipur was necessitated by the resgination of BJP national president Nitin Nabin, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April.

The constituency has around 3.8 lakh voters, but saw a turnout of just 34.3 per cent in the July 30 election. This was far lower than the 41.45 per cent polling recorded in the 2025 assembly elections.

RJD once again fielded Rekha Gupta, who lost to BJP's Nitin Nabin in the 2025 assembly elections by a margin of over 50,000 votes.

Independent candidates named after former chief ministers Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad failed to make an impact as they could only garner less than 120 votes after 24 rounds of counting.
