Heavy rains and thunderstorms are lashing all parts of Coastal, Malnad, and southern Karnataka.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for the entire state on Sunday.

The rains have caused The Tunga, Bhadra, Hemavati and Kaveri rivers to flow above the danger mark today,

As predicted, there was less rain than usual in the third week of July.

The starting point of the Malnad region, Shivamoga district, has been receiving continuous rain for the last 2 days.

All of the Sharavathi, Tunga, Malathi, Kumadvati, Varada and Dandavathi rivers are flowing above the danger level.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre’s list shows that Mundaje in Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada district received a record 348.5 mm of rainfall, while Kalmanja in the same taluk received 283.5 mm of rainfall. Between 8:30 am on Saturday, August 1 and 7:30 am on August 2.

In Shivamoga, a family of three, including a three-year-old child, were killed after the rains triggered the collapse of their shed in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased were identified as Mallikarjun, 35, his wife Nagaveni 28, and their son Santosh, residents of Kokkaregaru village in Gangavathi taluk of Koppal district. The Fire and Emergency Services Department and the police carried out an operation ot retrieve the bodies from under the debris.

Police said continuous heavy rain in the Malnad region led to the collapse of the hillock, resulting in the deaths of the three members of the family.

The family was asleep when the incident occurred. A neighbour also sustained injuries.

In Thirthhalli taluk in Nabala, the Malathi river suddenly rose, trapping six tourists who were travelling to  Dharmasthala from Honnavar

They had to be rescued by locals who heard their shouts for help.

The rain has also brought relief to farmers whose paddy fields were drying up due to the heat.

The Tunga River is flowing in flood-like conditions due to the heavy rains in Sringeri. If the rains continue. The river may cause homes near the river to be flooded

The Hemavati River is flowing above the danger level in Mudigere taluk. The Bhadra River is also overflowing due to continuous rains in Kudremukh, Kalasa and Balehonnur areas.

The Bhadra River flowed above the danger level, and the water took over a road in Nellibeedu and Hosamakki, cutting off the Kalasa-Kuduremukh road connection and the Samse bridge on the state highway. Vehicles were stuck on the road for hours.s

In Sringeri, traffic was suspended on Tuesday night due to floods caused by the overflowing Tunga River.

The heavy rains have also caused floods in the Triveni Sangama in Bhagamandala. The flood water has reached the steps of the famous Sri Bhagandeshwar Temple, completely cutting off the main road connection between Bhagamandala and Napoklu.

All trains on the Bengaluru-Mangalore route have been cancelled due to a landslide near Yadakumari-Shiravagilu in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan.
