The crucial meeting of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust held on Monday saw the resignation of former general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra being accepted. The meeting, which began at 3:30 pm, thirty minutes later than scheduled, began with the members expressing regret over the recent incident related to the Ram Temple.

The first item on the agenda was the proposal to consider the resignation of Rai and Mishra. The trust accepted the duo’s resignation, following which they left the meeting.

As per reports, the trust decided to appoint Bajrang Bagda as the new general secretary in his place.

Who is Bajrang Lal Bagra?

A native of Sikar district in Rajasthan, Bagda  is a chartered accountant with extensive experience in organisational operations and financial management. Currently serving as the international general secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bagra has held several organisational roles in the Parishad, including Joint  General Secretary of the VHP, as well as president and CEO of the Ekal Abhiyan.

His vast administrative experience within the VHP and his service as the chairman of the National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a major "Navratna" public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Mines of the Central Government, make him a strong contender for the post.

As per local media reports, Bagra has been playing an active role in the VHP and has strongly represented the VHP on issues related to Hindu society, population, religious conversion, temples, and religious matters.  

Other items on agenda

The meeting also briefed on the interim findings of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the alleged embezzlement. Speculations were that unaudited income and expenditure statement, balance sheet, and other financial details for the 2025-26 fiscal year will be presented for approval.

Currently, the Trust comprises 11 regular members, including president Nritya Gopal Das, Vasudevanand Saraswati, Vishwaprasannatirth, Parmanand Giri, treasurer Govind Dev Giri, Krishna Mohan, Dinendra Das, and K Parasaran.
