Mumbai weather: IMD issues heavy rain warning for Mumbai for next 4 days
The weather department has also issued red and orange alerts for several other districts in Maharashtra's Konkan and Vidarbha regions
Mumbai is currently experiencing severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions due to heavy to very heavy rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting this trend to continue for the next 3-4 days, particularly in areas like Santacruz, Andheri, Khar, Bandra, Powai, and Kurla, where rainfall rates are expected to reach 50-60 mm per hour, compounded by a 4.27-meter high tide predicted for Thursday afternoon. Beyond Mumbai, the IMD has issued an orange alert for several districts in Vidarbha and a red alert for the ghat areas of Ratnagiri and Pune due to extremely heavy rainfall, alongside predictions of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of up to 40-50 km/h across Konkan, Vidarbha, and Central Maharashtra, with other regions receiving yellow alerts for moderate to heavy rain.

As Mumbai battles heavy showers that have inundated low-lying areas and disrupted road and rail traffic, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for the city. As per the weather forecast, Mumbai will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 3-4 days.
According to the department, heavy rain is expected in many areas of the city over the next few hours due to the active Very Intense Rain Bands (highly organised, elongated streaks of heavy precipitation capable of producing sudden and extreme downpours) over the sea to the west of Mumbai.
According to the Meteorological Department, Santacruz, Andheri, Khar, Bandra, Powai, and Kurla are expected to experience the most rainfall. These areas are expected to receive heavy rain at a speed of 50 to 60 mm per hour.
The BMC said a high tide of 4.27 metres is expected at 1.45 pm on Thursday, while the next high tide of 3.71 metres is due at 1.31 am on Friday. A low tide of 1.82 metres is expected at 7.49 pm on Thursday.
The city received heavy rainfall of over 200 mm of rainfall over the last 24 hours, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Prime areas in the city like Dadar, Parel, Hindmata, Charkop, Worli, Goregaon and Andheri have been waterlogged, causing inconvenience to commuters and slowing vehicular traffic.
Heavy rainfall in Konkan, Vidarbha
Not just in Mumbai, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Konkan, Vidarbha, and Central Maharashtra for the next four days. Heavy rainfall is expected in some areas of Marathwada too. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for several districts in Vidarbha today. According to the department, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds with speeds of up to 40-50 kilometers per hour are expected during this period.
A red alert has been issued for the ghat areas of Ratnagiri and Pune, where extremely heavy rainfall is likely. An orange alert has been declared for heavy to very heavy rainfall in districts like Palghar, Pune, Satara, Raigad, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Amravati, Nagpur and Gondia. There is a yellow alert for moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms in Nashik, Jalgaon and other areas of Marathwada.
The IMD has also predicted that several districts in Vidarbha will receive strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour and rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
