A number of regions in North India felt tremors on Saturday after a major 6.2-magnitude earthquake pounded Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region.

Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR were said to be some of the main regions affected in India by tremors from the Hindu Kush quake.

No casualties have been reported in India, Pakistan, or Afghanistan yet.

According to the National Centre of Seismology (NCS), the earthquake's epicentre was in Afghanistan, at a depth of 215km.

It added that the epicentre of the quake was about 74km south from Fayzabad in northeastern Afghanistan, which sent strong tremors rippling across Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan.

"I was sitting on a chair inside. The chair shook ... Thankfully, there is no damage in this area so far," a local from Jammu and Kashmir told ANI.

Visuals from various parts of India show household objects like fans and chandeliers mildly shaking amid the tremors. However, no major infrastructural damage has been reported yet.

"When we felt a slight earthquake ... we got a bit startled. But it stopped after just a couple of tremors," another local from J&K said.

Notably, deep-focus earthquakes, which have deep epicentres and spread their impact over long distances, are generally less likely to cause extensive damage to life and property.

Still, a Reuters report showed that the quake's effect on Pakistan was even more pronounced, with residents of the northern Swat district rushing out of their homes in panic after feeling the tremors.

"The tremors were very strong here in Swat and lasted for quite some time," a resident said, adding that women and children could be seen crying as people gathered outdoors.
