The Telangana government in Hyderabad has named a road "Donald Trump Avenue" in tribute to the United States and its strengthening relationship with India, marking a significant gesture of recognition for the first US President to receive such an honor in India. This development was highlighted by President Trump himself on Truth Social, who shared a photograph of the ceremonial plaque unveiling attended by Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, noting the road's proximity to major American tech companies and its symbolic importance during the "Freedom 250" ceremony celebrating American Independence. While the Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, views this as a reflection of the burgeoning India-US partnership in areas like technology and defense, the decision has sparked criticism from opposition parties such as the BJP and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), who question the move given perceived divergences in US-India relations and call for its withdrawal.

US President Donald Trump has thanked India after a road in Hyderabad was named in his honour earlier this week.

"The new Donald Trump Avenue in Hyderabad, India — the first US President to ever be honoured in this way. Thank you," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He also shared a photograph of Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor unveiling the ceremonial plaque at the US Consulate in Hyderabad.

The Telangana government named the road "Donald Trump Avenue" as a tribute to the United States and in recognition of Hyderabad's growing role in India-US relations. The road is located near the offices of several major American technology companies, including Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.

The plaque was unveiled during the "Freedom 250" ceremony at the US Consulate on Tuesday, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence. The event brought together senior diplomats, government officials, and leaders from the business, aerospace, defence, and technology sectors.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and US Consul General in Hyderabad Laura Williams also attended the celebrations.

"Nowhere is the high-speed trajectory of our partnership more evident than in Hyderabad. From HITEC City to aerospace and defence, this region represents the progress that is defining our bilateral momentum," Gor said at the event.

The Congress-led Telangana government's decision to name the road after Trump, however, drew criticism from several political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"Rahul Gandhi says President Trump is hurting Indian interests. Then why is his government in Telangana giving the ultimate tribute to him by renaming a road after him?" BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said in a post on X on Wednesday, criticising the Congress government over the move.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) also condemned the decision, calling it "outrageous" and demanding that it be withdrawn.
