‘Conspiracy to remove 3 CMs’: Akhilesh Yadav's surprise defence of BJP's Mohan Yadav amid land scam allegations
MP CM Mohan Yadav faces serious land scam allegations in Ujjain. In a surprising political twist, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav defends him, claiming a conspiracy
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is facing allegations of a land scam, with a national media report claiming his family and associated firms acquired significant property in Ujjain for ₹45 crore across 137 plots totaling 168 acres, coinciding with infrastructure developments. His office has refuted these claims, asserting no increase in his personal agricultural landholdings, which remain at 17.967 acres as declared in election affidavits. Unexpectedly, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav defended Mohan Yadav, suggesting a conspiracy to oust him and stating the Chief Minister's prior involvement in real estate. This support drew commentary, with some attributing it to caste solidarity, while the Congress has criticized Mohan Yadav and the BJP, questioning the lack of central agency investigations into the alleged "land scam" and hinting at internal political machinations possibly orchestrated by former MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

As Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav comes under attack after reports emerged that he had his family members and relatives acquire a large swath of property in Ujjain, where infrastructural initiatives are coming up, he has found support from an unlikely quarter. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday raised eyebrows when he came to the aid of Mohan Yadav, though indirectly, when he suggested there was a conspiracy being hatched against him.
A report that appeared in a national media claimed that Mohan Yadav’s family and their real estate firms spent Rs 45 crore on at least 137 plots totalling 168 acres in Ujjain.
The claim was dismissed by Mohan Yadav’s office, which called the report a confusing narrative. The CMO sources have stated that there has been no increase in the agricultural landholding of Mohan Yadav. In November 2023, the total agricultural land owned and possessed by him was 17.967 acres; as of June 2026, it remains 17.967 acres. This fact has already been declared in his election affidavits, the CMO clarified.
However, Akhilesh’s support for the Chief Minister surprised political pundits. Akhilesh Yadav, speaking to reporters in Lucknow, openly defended Mohan Yadav, stating that a conspiracy has been hatched against him. Dismissing the claims regarding land, Akhilesh Yadav stated that the Chief Minister previously operated in the real estate business. The SP chief claimed that a conspiracy is being hatched to remove three Chief Ministers, including Mohan Yadav and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, from their posts.
Akhilesh’s support for Mohan Yadav soon created a social media buzz, with many dissecting the relationship between the two leaders. Some highlighted the caste angle, stating: “If the accused is from one's own caste, everyone jumps to his defence. Akhilesh Yadav is defending the BJP leader because that leader belongs to his caste."
Congress Vs BJP
The Congress has lashed out at Mohan Yadav and the BJP after the scam allegations, questioning why central probe agencies are not investigating those behind the alleged "land scam" in Madhya Pradesh.
Congress general secretary, Organisation, K C Venugopal, said people are now aware of the truth behind "Na khaoonga, na khaane doonga" and said this "farce" must end now.
"PM Modi, why have ED-CBI not knocked on the doors of MP CM Mohan Yadav? Is a 253-acre mega land scam not grounds enough to chase him and punish him for his crimes?" Venugopal said on X.
He also hinted at the infighting within the party. "There is also talk that the Agriculture Minister -- who moved from MP to the Centre -- is the one who orchestrated the 'planting of stories' against the Chief Minister!" Ramesh said, referring to Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
