The NEET re-exam, which comes after students' May 3 attempt was cancelled, saw the deployment of more than two lakh personnel, in addition to the use of 1.38 lakh CCTV cameras and more than 50,000 jammers.

The much-awaited re-test for the NEET-UG examination for more than 22 lakh students in India and abroad concluded on Sunday, for which the National Testing Agency (NTA) claimed that it had been "fully prepared".

The major re-exam, which comes after students' May 3 attempt was cancelled, saw the deployment of more than two lakh personnel, in addition to the use of 1.38 lakh CCTV cameras and more than 50,000 jammers.

Yet, a number of issues plagued the exam, which has again led students and parents to accuse both the NTA and political parties.

Here are five issues that took place on or around the re-NEET exam on Sunday:

Sale of AI-generated question papers

The Indore Crime Branch has arrested Akshay Maalviya, a first-year law student, for allegedly running an online racket involved in selling fake, AI-generated question papers to students.

Following inputs from the police in Rajasthan's Kota, the 19-year-old was arrested after he was linked to an Instagram account that sold such papers to around 20-35 students at prices of about Rs 50-200.

"During investigation, it was found that he had no access to any original paper. He used AI tools, including ChatGPT, to generate questions and sold those question sets to students by presenting them as leaked papers,” a senior Crime Branch officer told Indian Express.

Traffic jams delaying NEET students

The Congress on Sunday staged a political rally in Bengaluru's Malleshwaram that caused traffic jams, which reportedly delayed students en route to their NEET re-test centres.

This traffic allegedly led to four students missing the strict 1:30 PM entry deadline.

According to eyewitnesses, three girls who had arrived at 1:32 PM even climbed over the railing after they found the main gate locked. However, they were still unable to enter the venue, as the inner gate had also been closed.

A video of three delayed students crying outside a Karnataka exam venue also went viral at around this time, sparking mixed reactions from netizens.

Telegram leak claim

Despite the Centre imposing a controversial temporary ban on Telegram to stop alleged paper leaks and misinformation, a video went viral after the re-test, claiming that the papers had already been leaked.

"The video is FAKE and the claims it makes are false," the NTA wrote in an X post responding to the viral video, adding that the exams had been conducted "successfully".

The burqa block

A candidate in Ajmer alleged that she had been asked to remove her burqa during checking before being allowed into the examination centre.

The student, identified as Kulsum Bano, also claimed that she had appeared for the May 3 examination in the same attire, and questioned why objections were being raised only now.

Similar complaints emerged from NEET students in Gurugram, where some candidates and parents alleged that their rudraksha beads were removed and their sacred threads were cut before allowing them entry.

Munna Bhai MBBS impersonation racket

The Bihar police uncovered a large-scale impersonation racket aimed at helping candidates cheat in the NEET-UG re-test in the Lakhisarai district.

When news of the scam went viral, netizens began comparing it to the plot of the 2003 film Munna Bhai MBBS, for similarities to its plot.

As many as 24 people were arrested for being part of a "solver" gang who would take the exams on behalf of certain candidates, with medical student Arpit Raj is one of the key accused in the case.

About 14 people employees of the biometric company with alleged links to the gang were also arrested.
