Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday alleged that the Delhi Police was "about to arrest me", after it denied the protesters permission to extend their Jantar Mantar protest.
"I appeal to you to not stop this peaceful protest nationwide even if I am arrested!" he said in a video on X, urging CJP protesters to launch a 'Jail Bharo Andolan' in their respective districts.
However, he reiterated that any and all protests by the CJP against Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan ought to be peaceful.
This comes after the CJP demonstrations, which began at 1 PM at Delhi's Jantar Mantar—for the second time since the satirical outfit began its nationwide protests—were not allowed to go past 5 PM.
Yet, as the cops began attempts to clear out the area after 5 PM, Dipke refused to budge—urging the youth to follow suit—until Pradhan stepped down from his post over the alleged irregularities in the NEET paper leak case, in addition to issues with CBSE's OSM system.
“I urge Delhi Police to extend our permission to protest here ... the protest has been peaceful ... we are just innocent students calling for justice," he told the crowd at the Jantar Mantar.
The CJP leader had earlier appealed to the youth to join the protest after 6 PM as well, confident that the Delhi Police would approve of the extension.
He also requested Delhi Police to "open a dialogue with the Centre" and asserted, "If there are arrests, I will be the first to court arrest."
Even at the time it began, Delhi's Jantar Mantar saw heavy police deployment as students sloganeered and held placards seeking answers from the government over alleged failures protecting the interests of NEET aspirants, in particular, and students in general.
Supporters also responded to Dipke's call to bring "thali and chammach (plates and spoons)", using them as symbols of protest and banging them during the demonstration.
Chants of "Dharmendra Pradhan must resign" echoed at the venue, alongside the noise caused by the plates and spoons, as protesters peacefully shouted for accountability.
"So much police has been deployed to save Dharmendra Pradhan—why does this government love its one incompetent minister more than the youth?" the CJP wrote in another post on X, showing visuals of the heavy deployment at the protest site.
