The optional self-enumeration process ahead of Census 2027 Phase 1: Houselisting and Housing is set to begin in Kerala on June 16.
The 15-day window for self-enumeration will end on June 30, according to K. Biju, state nodal officer for Census 2027 and Mithra T., director of census operations and Chief Principal Census Officer of Kerala.

How to self-enumerate for Census 2027 Phase 1?
- Go to the official Census of India Self-Enumeration Portal https://se.census.gov.in/.
- Choose State or Union Territory from the drop-down menu and verify the CAPTCHA code.
- Enter the full name of the Head of the Household, mobile number and email address.
- Verify your identity by entering the OTP sent to the registered mobile number.
- Select your preferred language
- Select district, locality and pin code.
- Mark or confirm the exact location of your residence.
- Answer the questionnaire
- Review your details and click Final Submit to complete the process.
- Note your unique 11-digit Self-Enumeration ID sent via SMS or email.
Once self-enumeration is done, you do not have to fill out the form again physically. Enumerators will use a dedicated mobile application for data collection, while the entire operation will be managed through the Census Management and Monitoring System portal. You can provide the enumerator your Self-Enumeration ID for verification and they will update your information in the main database. Any clarification or review of details can be done when the enumerator visits your home.
The questionnaire consists of 33 questions that include availability of drinking water, bathing facility, kitchen and LPG/PNG connection, access to internet, main cereal consumed in the household and more.

Which states have completed Phase 1?
The houselisting phase began in April 1 and will be completed across India on September 30. It has already been completed across 12 states and Union Territories.
Karnataka, Goa, Odisham Mizoram, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Delhi's NDMC and Cantonment Board areas completed Phase 1 on May 15 while Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu concluded it on May 19 and Uttarakhand on May 24.
On May 30, the initial phase was completed in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh while Bihar saw the fieldwork completion on May 31. On June 9, the preliminary census process was officially concluded in Telangana, followed by Punjab on June 13. Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Delhi's MCD areas completed the phase on June 14.
The door-to-door fieldwork will be completed in Uttar Pradesh on June 20 while it will conclude in Gujarat, Puducherry, Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir on June 30. The field operations in Himachal Pradesh will begin on June 16.
The second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027.
