UP horror: Minor boys held for raping five-year-old in broad daylight in Bareilly

A public event in the village meant most of the adults were not around, and the accused reportedly convinced the child to follow them to an empty field where she was sexually assaulted

Uttar Pradesh was rocked by yet another rape allegation after a five-year-old girl in the Baheri area of Bareilly district was sexually assaulted by two minor boys. Both the accused have been apprehended, UP Police officials reportedly said on Thursday.

According to Police Circle Officer Arun Singh, the crime took place on Wednesday when an Akhand Ramayana recitation was being held in a village in the Baheri police station area. The accused minor boys approached the child and convinced her to follow them into an empty field, where she was sexually assaulted. Shortly after the incident, the girl returned home wearing bloodied clothes and told her family what had happened.

The police official told news agency PTI that the family reached out to the local police station with a formal complaint. Upon receiving the information, a police team reached the scene and sent the girl to the district hospital for treatment.

Baheri Police Station In-charge Dinesh Kumar Sharma said both the accused are minors and have been detained.

He said the girl is being treated at the district hospital and is undergoing a medical examination, whilst further legal proceedings are underway.

In a separate incident in the state, a Mainpuri special court sentenced a 28-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment for raping a five-year-old girl in a village last year.

Special Judge (POCSO Act) Jahendra Pal Singh on Thursday convicted the accused, Aman Kumar, and also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on him, Public Prosecutor Sheilendri Rajput said on Friday.

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on March 21, 2025, when the minor girl was playing in front of her house. Kumar, who hails from the same village, lured the child to his hut and raped her.

Hearing her cries, family members and villagers rushed to the spot, but the accused managed to flee from the scene.
