A woman from Jalpura village, located in the Ecotech -3 police station area, committed suicide by jumping off the third floor of her house on Sunday night.
Police have now arrested both her husband and father-in-law after they were accused of dowry harassment and murder by the deceased woman's family.
Sanjay, the woman’s father, said that Deepika married Hrithik in December 2024. He said that he spent about Rs 1 crore on the wedding.
The woman’s in-laws were reportedly unhappy with the dowry that was given at the time of marriage. They proceeded to demand more, including a Fortuner car and Rs 50 lakh in cash.
According to the father, Deepika called him on May 17. She was crying and told him that her father-in-law Manoj, mother-in-law Poonam, husband Hrithik, sister-in-law Neha and their uncles Pramod and Vinod all beat her, demanding a car and money.
That same day, Sanjay arrived in Jalpura with his brother-in-law, Abbu Pradhan. At the house at 7 pm they spoke with the accused, reached some understanding, and they left.
The father alleged that after he reached home, Manoj called him to inform him that Deepika fell off the roof and was injured.
She was taken to Sharda Hospital, where she was declared dead.
Preliminary investigations showed that her body had marks consistent with assault.
A case was registered against all of the family members. Police have arrested husband Hrithik and father-in-law Manoj. The search for the other accused is ongoing.
The police say that action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and evidence.
The case came to light after the death of another Noida woman in Bhopal. Twisha Sharma was found hanging from her marital residence last week. Her family has alleged that she was murdered over dowry. Her husband and mother-in-law have been arrested in relation to her death.
