Chandranath Rath’s attackers used UPI to pay toll booth before murder, SIT finds

Special investigation team reveals that assailants had prior information on Suvendu Adhikari's aide Chandranath Rath's position during his fatal attack

The assailants who attacked and killed West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s close aide Chandranath Rath reportedly had prior information on his position inside the vehicle on Wednesday, the special investigation team has found.

So far, three people have been detained in relation to the case. Investigators believe that at least eight people were involved in the operation, including local criminal associates who provided logistical support to the shooters.

The investigator has also found that the car that the accused used, a Nissan Micra Car was brought from Jharkhand.

The accused also paid money at the Bali toll plaza using their UPI account. Before they headed to kill Chandranath Rath.

Police are now tracking the payment made by the alleged accused to track them.

They have also collected CCTV footage of the vehicle at the Bali toll plaza.

Police are now trying to find out the bank details of the assailant. However, no solid evidence has been collected which could support arrests.

On May 6, Chandranath Rath was shot dead in his car while he travelled with two others near the Doharia area of Madhyamgran. The assailant had arrived in two vehicles. They later abandoned their cars and fled on bikes.

The bikes were recovered from a walled area.

Police also found out that the number plates on the car and the two bikes were all fake.

Chandranath’s driver was also shot in the attack in currently recovering treatment in the hospital.

Police sources say that Chandranath’s murder was planned at least a month and a half ago.
