A shocking investigation is now unfolding in one of Hyderabad’s most posh residential areas, Jubilee Hills, after the wife of a former IPS officer was found murdered in her own home, on Friday. Police now suspect that a woman from Nepal who was hired as house help reportedly plotted the murder with the help of some accomplices.
Sunanda, 55, wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Raj, was found dead at her home on Friday on the first floor of their three-story, high-security house in the Administration Nagar area.
She was reportedly strangled to death. Police also found that valuables from the home, including gold jewellery and cash were missing. The victim was alone at the home during the incident. Vinay Ranjan was in Bengaluru.
Police now say they are investigating the role of the domestic help, Kalpana and are questioning family acquaintances. The accused reportedly entered the house around 1 am.
Neighbours had alerted the police after noticing suspicious activity at the home. Police who arrived at the scene inspected the crime scene and collected forensic evidence.
A murder case has also been registered.
Police officials said that they are investigating the case from all angles. They suspect that this was not just robbery but a preplanned crime.
The domestic help had worked at the home for the past eight months. Police suspect that the accused informed three other accomplices that the victim would be alone that night.
Police are on the lookout for the woman who is currently absconding.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, meanwhile, has acknowledged the involvement of a Nepali gang in the murder. Police have also formed several special teams and have begun searches in various areas of the city.
