Assam Assembly Election Results: BJP begins celebrations as it secures victory in Jorhat, Sissibargaon, leads in Guwahati Central, Dispur

Vote counting is ongoing, but celebrations have begun for the BJP, as the party is seeing a clear victory

The BJP is close to winning in the New Guwahati constituency after multiple rounds of vote counting. Diplu Ranhan Sarmah led with over 89,636 votes against Congress candidate Santanu Bora, who trailed behind.

In Jorhat, BJP candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami secured a decisive victory over Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi, securing about 69,439 votes after all rounds of counting.

The BJP has begun celebrations as early as it is set to see a landslide victory in the state.

The party has won about 3 seats, in Dhemaji, Sissibargaon and Jorhat so far as vote counting continues.

Diplu Ranjan Sarma, a BJP candidate from New Guwahati assembly constituency, told ANI, "This is a very good result for the BJP. We feel we can win very comfortably, and with a big mandate, we will win."

In Jalukbari, Chief Minister Himnata Biswa Sarma secured about 80,499 votes, a total of 73.46 per cent of the votes. 

Meanwhile, the BJP’s Vijay Kumar Gupta is leading in Guwahati Central with 61,909 votes after 11 rounds of vote counting against trailing candidate Kunki Chowdhury from the Assam Jatiya Parishad.

Meanwhile in Dispur, Pradyut Bordoloi of the BJP is leading with a margin of 79,576 votes against the INC’s Mira Goswami.

In Sibasagar, Akhil Gogoi from the Rajidor Dal is leading and in Khowang, Chakradhar Gogoi from the BJP is leading.

Mayur Borgohain of the BJP is leading from Nazira.

In the Rupahihat constituency, a stronghold of the INC, Nurul Huda is leading.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal termed the outcome of the elections a “historic victory”.
